Review of Evernote and Evernote Web Clipper

Of all the useful sources and websites we were shown in this course, Evernote was by far the most useful. When we first started using it, I didn't feel like I would be using it much at all and that it would just sit on my laptop not being used. I was very wrong in that sense.

I have found it to be incredibly useful not only for this course, but for others as well. In the past whenever I did a research report on anything, I would always create a favorites folder in my browser, and save any websites to it. It works, but it is a lot messier than evernote. For one thing, once I have clipped any webpages I want to use to Evernote, I don't need internet access to be able to use them. They are more or less saved on my computer. Another thing was that after a project was done, I would often simply unfavorite the page I got the information from and move on. Evernote allows me to keep all my information organized in such a way that I don't feel like it is so cluttered already, that when I am done, I need to remove older pieces.

When it came to this course, I used it constantly. Every time that I found information on a source that I needed for whatever project we were working on I would immediately save it to the Evernote in a folder that I had created which was specifically entitled for that project. I feel like I could have organized the folders a bit better as when you have more than 5 sources saved it can occasionally take a few minutes to find the source you want, though I found that the articles closest to the bottom of the list were the newest articles. I also found the Evernote app to be very useful. When there was a colloquium talk that I was very interested in. I would take out my iPod and open the app so as to take notes while the speaker was talking so that I could have it all saved on my Evernote. Not only was it good to just clip sources, I could also type up my notes and what my report was going to look like.

I have also been using Evernote outside this class a great deal. In fact, I think I have more notebooks for different classes and topics than I do for this class. In my writing class, we need a lot of sources for our papers in some cases so having Evernote and saving all the websites I need right to it has been incredibly useful and a lot less work than having multiple tabs open on my browser and making sure I had all of the websites I wanted to use saved. Outside of the class room, I have used it to gather knowledge on things that just interest me in general. I have a few folders on mythology and interesting articles about that topic along with a specific folder which I have been using to do research for books I would like to write.

As of this moment, I have 13 notebooks and 111 notes in total. It is not a huge number, but for a start it is pretty good. I have not yet developed a use for tags as I haven't really had a need for them. Anytime I have a new note that I feel like should have it's own folder I do that and move any articles there which I feel will fit better. Perhaps in the future I will make use of the tags, but for now, I am not using them.

Right now, I don't quite know how beneficial these notes will be in my future, but, I feel like having all this information here will benefit me in some way in the years to come. I fully intend to continue using Evernote in my future courses so as to broaden my knowledge and to save all the information I have gathered over time.
